Lullabye Hymns

I love music. I love listening to it, singing it, and playing it on the piano (and when I'm in the mood to be completely humbled- on the violin). I love using it to worship the Lord. I hope Charlie grows to love music, too. Since he was born, especially while trying to calm him or get him to sleep, I, like many mothers around the world do with their children, have often sang to him. Even loving music as much as I do, for some reason I have a hard time coming up with songs to sing from my head, like I have no repertoire to work with. Wish I had a system in my head to page through all the songs I want to remember to sing to Charlie. Anyway, because of my little dilemma, I often just sing the first song (usually a hymn) that comes to my head.

Here are a couple hymns/songs that I most often sing to Charlie:

'Tis So Sweet
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

Great is Thy Faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Day by Day
Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow'r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
"As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,"
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith's sweet consolation,
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E'er to take, as from a father's hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till with Christ the Lord I stand.

Cares Chorus
I cast all my cares upon you.
I lay all of my burdens down at your feet
And anytime I don’t know what to do
I will cast all my cares upon you.

I Love You Lord
I love you Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship you oh my soul, rejoice.
Take joy my king in what you hear.
May it be a sweet sweet sound in your ear.

Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me this I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong.
They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me,
The Bible tells me so.

Sometimes singing these songs to Charlie helps ME remember these truths and calms my soul when I am worn out and feeling like a failure of a mom, as well. What a sweet, sweet graceful God we have!

What are songs/hymns you sing to/over your little ones? I'd love to add to my very limited repertoire :)

  3. Caleb loves music so we do a lot of singing around here...or maybe we do a lot of singing and that's why he loves music...? Sometimes I swear he has a soundtrack in his mind that only he can hear - he busts out humming or clapping or dancing randomly! Lately, we sing a lot of "trust and obey, for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey" We're working on obedience ;-)
