Happy Half Birthday, Norah!

Our sweet 2nd born is 6 months old (and 5 days now)! These may have been the fastest 6 months I've experienced in my life so far! Life has been a joy with Norah, who is usually all smiles, with the exception of middle of the night teething that seems to never end and for awhile didn't seem like it would ever produce any teeth! However, a few days before she turned 6 months, I felt a sharp something in her mouth as she was gnawing on my finger. Now a few days later, the little white edge of a tooth is finally visible, and her other bottom middle tooth can be felt, as well! There have been at least 4 sleepless nights and 4 full months of what seemed like teething due to these little teeth, so it is encouraging to at least have evidence of their existence. Besides teething, here are some more milestones and new developments in the world of Norah:

  • Starting to sit up. A bit wobbly, but she does stay for awhile if put in just the right position (have to widen her base, and put her arms on the floor in front of her).
  • Smiling when she recognizes a favorite toy, i.e. Sophie the Giraffe.
  • Occasionally getting up on her hands and knees for a few seconds before falling on her tummy. Practicing her pre-crawling skills! She also rotates somehow in a circle over time.
  • Jumping in her doorway jumper. Wow, she's got frog legs. Now when she even sees her jumper from afar her legs start going!
  • She still likes sticking out her tongue a lot, and we imagine it is because she likes to feel her new teeth coming in.
  • She loves watching Dan and listening to his voice. She's pretty much mesmerized by him. If I tell Dan we've had a rough day with a cranky baby, when he comes home, she makes me look like a liar with all of her smiling and cooing!
  • With the teething in full swing, sleeping has not been Norah's forte this past month. Sometimes waking even every 1.5-2 hours at night has been exhausting for all. Here's hoping that as soon as this second tooth is through we get a break!
  • She seems to be possibly switching from 3 naps a day to 2 longer ones, which I am not at all opposed to.
  • Norah is very intrigued by the food we eat around her. We haven't yet started her on solids, but it is not easy to eat with her sitting on our laps anymore! She wide-eyes our food and has even grabbed our plates a couple of times in order to bring that yummy looking stuff closer.
  • She likes to blow raspberries, smack her gums, and vocalize.
  • She loves to pull hair. Especially mine. And she has a death grip on it about 95% of the time.
  • She stares at strangers/new faces intensely.
  • She plays by herself pretty well, but if I enter her vision and then exit quickly, she screams hysterically as if I have actually broken her heart.
  • She loves playing "earthquake" where we lay her down on her back on the bed and then bounce the bed around her with our hands. Laughs every time.
  • Stats: 14 lbs. 14 oz., 25" long. Still under Charlie's 3 month weight! Crazy. But she has now doubled her birth weight!
Life is busy with two, but such a joy. We can't believe our baby is already half a year! Thankful to the Lord for our blessing of a baby girl and can't wait to see her personality continue to emerge!
