A couple of weeks ago, our little girl turned ONE (and life has been so busy, I'm only now blogging about it)! It has been a full, challenging, joy-filled, and blessed year. We are so thankful the Lord has given us a year with this sweet baby, and can't wait to see how He continues to move in her life.
In a way, it seems like only yesterday we held Norah for the first time, checking to see if she was a boy or girl in the comfort of our own low-lit, peaceful bedroom. At the same time, it feels like a lifetime ago. So much has happened this past year with Norah's birth, selling our house and buying a new one, moving, working on our new home, learning of Norah's FPIES condition, and beginning treatment/GAPS diet (this diet is intense, people). Because of her poor weight gain and inability to absorb nutrients well, up until about two weeks ago, she still woke 3-5 times in the night to eat, so I've wrestled with sleep deprivation longer than I expected to this past year! Of course she's been worth every extra moment of nighttime feedings ;) Thankfully, she has been gaining quickly these past two weeks and sleeping better at night (only waking twice in 12-13 hours). I especially feel thankful for the Lord's help this past year in so many situations where I've felt (and in reality, have been) powerless or in need of wisdom and strength. I once thought that perhaps people had many kids because they actually felt competent as parents. I'm not sure that's true now, because I certainly feel less competent as a parent now that I have two. I guess it's a good thing. God gets more glory in my weakness!
Here are some words we would use to describe Norah at one year:
happy. feisty. spunky. stubborn. sweet. cuddly. giggly. quick. sneaky. playful. musical. tiny. funny.
Favorites:
Song- "A Bushel and a Peck"
Toys- "little people," balls, things that make music, things she can chew, and her doll house
Food- used to be avocados, peaches, and bananas before we switched to her GAPS diet :/ She does love her chicken and ghee now, though :)
Loves: swinging at the park, music (dances and sings along!), animals (she points, laughs, and squeals at them), hugs, scrunching her nose and sniffing in and out and then laughing with us, shrugging her shoulders to look cute, copying Daddy's silly faces, playing "peek-a-boo", her big brother, playing "fetch" with us...haha
Skills: She can sign "more," "all done," and "milk" now. She crawls at lightning speeds towards places she shouldn't be. She walks around holding on to furniture or our hands, but seems content not trying to walk. She did stand a couple of times by herself for a few moments without holding on to anything. Plays catch with us...we roll her the ball, she picks it up and either throws it back or sets it in our hands, very pleased with herself. She can blow her nose when we hold up a tissue :) She gives the best hugs. Squawking, screeching, and screaming. Waves "hi" and claps. Points at things. Copies us. Says "Mama" and "Dada" and starting to say "ball" and "uh-oh."
Stats: 17 lbs 3 oz (on her birthday)- 18 lbs. 3 oz (today, two weeks later!), 27.5" long/tall, wearing 6-9 month clothes. 5 teeth.
We love you, little Norah. Happy Birthday!!
| For Norah's birthday, she was allowed a "special treat" that wasn't on her diet... a pear :) |
