Baby Talk
Charlie is now 11 days old! Every day we love him more and are still in awe that God would give us such a gift. It has definitely not been an easy 11 days with two brand new parents who hardly know anything about babies, but the Lord has been faithful and has given us strength to get through the nights (especially) and somehow stay at least partly sane during the days. We call Charlie our little grumpy baby because he almost always has a grumpy expression on his face. For the first week or so all he did was eat, sleep, and cry it seemed, but the last few days have been better with even a couple hours at a time where he is wide eyed and content. These moments make it all worth it! With postpartum recovery, little sleep at night, trouble nursing the first week, and lots of crying (by all), we wondered if it would ever get better. At the same time, I already don't want him to get any older! Stay just as you are, Charlie! :)
A couple nights ago when we were at our wits end with the inconsolable crying, we sat down and put in a dvd we had requested from the library months earlier during our childbirth class. Our instructor had recommended it and now we popped it in as I sat on the couch in tears wondering if little Charlie would go through his entire life crying. The dvd is called "Dunstan Baby Language" and teaches you five 'words' that babies say in their cries that help you know what they want. After watching, we tried them out that night and had our first night without any crying! Since then it has been a LOT easier to calm him down and he seems much happier in general. If you have a newborn to a 3 month old (that's the age range this works best with) I highly recommend checking these out from the library! Here's a clip of the dvd and the first word explanation below.

It gets easier! Glad you are "learning his language." That will help a lot! I haven't heard of these but will have to check them out!
ReplyDeleteMy mom told us about this before Clara was born. We watched it and found it to be very helpful too. I think the easiest to hear is the hunger cry. Even just knowing that one was very helpful. I hope things continue to get better with little Charlie! I can't wait to meet him.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! It is along the same lines as The Baby Whisperer book (which helped us a ton), but with actual examples of babies "talking." I actually looked online for videos like this, but was unsuccessful, so it is great to know about this now and for next time.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's pretty cool! Will definitely have to check out the full dvd. Another one that really helped us was "The happiest baby on the block." Can't wait to meet little Charlie!
ReplyDeleteWow~amazing! All those babies were imitating Charlie! I could so hear him as I listened and watched! I want to see the rest of the video....at Christmas?
