While feeding my 8 month old, he cries with panic between every bite of food I give him, as if I'm not going to give him enough or as quickly as he needs it. I wondered, "Why don't you trust that I will give you your next bite (when you need it), just as I have given you food all along, up until now, since your birth? Don't you know I love you?" Much of the time I actually feed him before I have a chance to eat, and sometimes at the expense of my meal altogether. Doesn't he remember all the times I've fed him in the past?
Then it dawned on me. That's how God feels about us. Why do we panic and somehow irrationally think he won't give us our next bite of food (or insert any of our true needs here) as he has all along? Have we forgotten all he has done for us since our birth? Don't we trust him? Has he ever truly let us down? Don't we know how much he loves us?
Philippians 4:19
"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
Matthew 7:9-11
"...Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!"
Love this... and needed to hear it as a reminder today... thanks for that! Hugs from Portugal!
