Pinterest Project: I Love You Because...

In my last post, I mentioned my new time-waster, Pinterest. Although, so far, it's actually been less time-wasting than Facebook, because it's inspiring me to actually do/make things. I'm most interested (or should I say, pinterested?) in the DIYs, or Do It Yourself projects. I'm all about saving money (as is Dan). I'm also all about doing simple crafts. Sometimes I attempt a seemingly simple project and it turns into something much more involved and complicated. I'm sure you've probably been there, as well. This is the reason I won't mention my actual first Pinterest project attempted. It was, well, time consuming and unfruitful. But we won't talk about that.

So, here is my first successful DIY project, inspired by Pinterest.
I pinned it onto my "If I Were Crafty" board from some random person I'm following due to their impressive collection of neat craft ideas. If that last sentence made no sense whatsoever, you'll just have to check Pinterest out. Anyway, here is the original picture/idea from kikicreates.blogspot.com that inspired me:

How cute! An easy way to (verbally) show love to your spouse (or other family you live with)! I admit it caught my fancy because one of my love languages is "words of affirmation," though I can always use a friendly reminder to affirm my husband more often, as well! Dry erase markers make this fun to continually check what's written and write something new each day (ok, so it will probably wear off in a week or so, but it is fun for now).

It really wasn't listed as a DIY on this person's blog, but I thought it couldn't be too difficult to make. So, I created the printed words in Microsoft Word without much hassle. Dan found me a square frame from Target for about $10, though I'm sure you could find a cheaper one at a thrift store or garage sale. Then I bought a simple piece of cardstock to print it on. Since the cardstock I bought was 8 1/2" x 11" and the frame is around 12" x 12", I realized I'd have to trim it into a square and find some sort of matte or background for the extra space in the frame. First, I thought perhaps fabric would be fun, (this would still have worked, I think) but I don't have any fabric on hand right now. Then I thought, maybe tissue paper, but couldn't find any that wasn't bright pink for some reason. Finally, I stumbled upon some extra wedding prints that I had forgotten about that were just sitting in an envelope. I decided to make the background out of the black and white ones, and then just put the printed words in the center and added some paper flowers I had in my craft supplies. Voila! Here's the finished product now hanging in our living room:
