Charlie: 12 Weeks

Charlie is 12 weeks tomorrow. Here are some of his latest tricks:

*Pre-giggling. Can't prove it yet. But there have been a couple "was that a laugh!?" moments. The real thing is sure to happen soon.

*Grasping things in his hands. It began with the burp cloths, but now he even has a favorite toy (a crinkly, teething, textured lion) that he grips in his fist and wildly flails around. Definitely gross motor, but it is a start.

*Putting anything he can manage to grasp in his mouth. You'd think this kid was teething or something (My mom says that all of us kids had our first tooth by 3 months! Please, no.). He recently found his hand and fingers, and when he realizes he can't fit his entire hand in his mouth, he will settle for his index and middle fingers. He even seems to prefer them over his pacifier much of the time! P.S. A side effect to this new trick is great amounts of drool all over his hands and outfits.

*Changing his eye color. Yes, he is one talented baby. His eyes were close to navy blue when he was born, up until this past week. I think they are turning darker and more gray. Interesting... mysterious....maybe he will have mood eyes?

*Mimicking us. His favorite "words" are: "Ah-poo," "Ah-goo," and I swear he said, "Okay" today. So, we started saying these "words" back to him at random times throughout the day, and he almost always copies the tone of our voices and repeats the "words" that we say! Not only that, but we buzz our lips and he does the same back, raises an eyebrow, and gives us a side smile as if to say, "Yeah, I'm that cute." Love it.

*Sleeping through the night. Well, once. But I have high hopes for many more restful nights in the near future. Besides, he has always been a really good night-time baby, waking only once (or twice at most) to eat since birth. So, I can't really complain. He's such a big boy, he doesn't even care to be swaddled anymore!

*Outgrowing all of his newborn outfits and most 0-3 months outfits. He is just barely fitting into 3 month clothing, and most comfortably fitting into 6 month clothing now! At close to 15 pounds, Charlie is one hefty little 12 week old.

*Growing chins and leg rolls. I think he is up to 3 chins now? He likes to show them off by smiling big and pushing his them down against his neck. His legs get bigger every time I change a diaper. Yep, those are my genes.

*Sprouting some curly hair. Ahhh! The curse of curls. Sorry, Charlie. Those, too, are my genes.

We love you more each day, "little" Charlie.

  1. You have to have at least one child with curly hair! It's only "natural."

  2. Isn't it awesome how God has us remember the good and forget the painful/tough times re: childbirth/raising? Dad says, "don't remind her about the nights we remember as we were so concerned for you both and your lack of sleep"...but you forgot! This is God's way of allowing you the desire for more children.....We are with you on the loving him more each day!!!

  3. Ha. No, Mom, I remember... but don't really count it because he was just in pain from the reflux then and he wasn't his normal self. Excluding those 3-4 weeks, he has always slept really well :)

  4. Love the curls, Tara!! Adorable, adorable, adorable. And what a chunker! Your poor arms, you are going to be one buff mama. He really is probably teething (and that might be the fussiness too, might not be a food thing). I've read a few places that babies often teeth for over a month before they actually pop through...drooling, chewing, fussy sounds like it could be teeth! Caleb has been working on 4 teeth for over a month now (two are bruised and two I can see right under the surface)...it just takes a while for them to work through.
