Hooray, it's time to juice! I've been actually looking forward to it. We've had some green juices in the past month since purchasing our juicer, and we actually think they are quite yummy! Unfortunately we started out with a lot less sleep than we should have gotten last night, but Dan had to play guitar at church late, while I was in the middle of a crazy reorganization of our bedroom closet/dresser/clothes! Then Dan had to run out and buy all the veggies and fruit for the first few days. In addition, early this morning we turned our clocks forward one hour for Daylight Savings Time and lost an hour of sleep. Oh yeah, and on top of all that, for some reason my crazy organizing brain (which must have been in hibernation until a few days ago) wouldn't turn off and I couldn't fall asleep until after 2am. So needless to say, we are a little sleepy here today. Dan had to leave early to play in church again this morning, so I got up with him at 7am to make our first juice!
Here's what we drank for breakfast:
"Peach, Grapefruit, Apple Juice"
4 Peaches
4 Grapefruit
2 Apples
Yum! It wasn't long before I felt hungry, though, and by hungry I mean actual growling noises coming from my stomach. Funny how I hardly ever experience that feeling before I eat out of habit. So I made myself some decaf green tea and drank a lot of water. Then I made our second drink of the day.
Here's what we drank for lunch:
"Mean Green Juice" (the juice Joe used most for the documentary)
2 cucumbers
8 celery stalks
4 apples
12-16 Kale leaves
1 lemon
1" piece of ginger root
In the morning you can drink more fruit juices, but in general you're supposed to make the juices a ratio of around 80:20 veggies to fruit, especially green veggies. Here's what our meal looked like before and after:
For dinner we're having this:
"Great Greens Juice"
4 green apples
4-6 cups spinach
2 cucumbers
8 stalks celery
1 fennel bulb
2 bunches basil
*Note: these recipes listed make 2 (16-18 oz) servings
So far so good! Just need a little nap, I think... :)
