Preparing for a Juice Fast

So, Dan and I are planning a 10 day juice fast! We have been wanting to do it for some time now since watching the "Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead" documentary (available on Netflix & Hulu). It's a really entertaining film about a man who was, well, "fat, sick, & nearly dead." He was not only 100 lbs overweight, but also suffered from an autoimmune disease and was loaded up on steroids and medication to treat the symptoms. He decided to start juicing fruits and vegetables, committing to a 60 day juice fast. He not only lost tons of weight, but was able to get off his medications and start a new healthy life.

My brother, sister, & parents have also watched the documentary and completed 10 day juice fasts with great results. Now that we have purchased our juicer, and I'm finished nursing, we can finally do it! We're following many of the tips/recipes from the Reboot site, connected with the film. A friend suggested I blog about the fast while we're doing it so you can sort of experience it along with us (except you, of course get to eat all kinds of sweets & cheeseburgers). So, that's what I plan on doing.

Starting tomorrow we are prepping, in a sense, for our fast. We are going to cut out all sweets & caffeine, and then by Saturday we will have cut out all meat & dairy as well. This is supposed to minimize some of the uncomfortable side effects during the first few days of the fast, such as headaches and intense cravings. It's better to ease your body into it. Then, starting on Sunday morning, March 11th, we will be on Day One of our juice fast! The fast will end on Wednesday, March 21st.

Here are my goals/reasons for juice fasting:
* To re-train my body to crave fruits & vegetables, as I hardly eat enough daily
* To break my addiction to sugar, especially
* To have more energy, detox my body, and become healthier in general
* To lose the "baby weight" I'm still holding onto...would it technically be considered "toddler weight" now?

We're really excited for the fast, but would sure appreciate your prayers and encouragement! I'm anticipating some difficulty with preparing Charlie meals while we're only drinking juice.

Stay tuned... I'm hoping to update each day of the fast.
